Introduction

File System Saint, or just "Saint", is a Host-based Intrusion Detection System that was originally conceived as a lightweight alternative to Tripwire. Starting with version 1.0, Saint has been completely re-worked to include support for Berkeley DB, both SHA & MD5 hashes and much more. It has been tested on various platforms including Solaris, OpenBSD, Slackware, Redhat and Gentoo. (I haven't tried, but in theory it should work for Windows as well with only minor modifications)

Description

Saint takes a snapshot of file attributes (owner, size, permissions, etc) and generates a SHA-1 checksum for each file found under the directory tree(s) you specify. Armed with this information, you can now monitor your system at any interval you wish. Saint will alert you to files that have changed, disappeared or been added.
